The Praying Gesture
Shitism is a project I created to explore the concept of religion. My initial curiosity was simple: why can religion attract people to believe, develop faith, and willingly act under its guidance and rules? As I continued thinking about this question, I began to wonder whether it might be possible to create an anti-religion—a religion that operates entirely outside the logic of traditional religions. That is how Shitism came into being.
I illustrated a “Genesis”that explains the origins of the world from the perspective of Shitism, and I wrote a series of reasons why people might believe in it. I print the booklets, which contains the Shitism worldview, and left copies around different corners of campus, hoping that someone might stumble upon it, read it, and perhaps even decide to join the organization.
Because Shitism is conceived as an “anti-religion,” it has had no collective activities since its founding.
